Daily vigil in the centre of Harrogate

for the children of Gaza

As the conflict in Gaza continues, a daily vigil is being held in the centre of Harrogate for the children of Gaza. Starting at 11am, on Monday January 19th, the vigil, for two hours each day, takes place at St Peter’s Church in the town centre.

Candles will be lit, prayers will be offered, and organiser, the Revd Canon Denys de la HoydeChildren in Gaza, says the vigil will go on for as long as conflict continues: “We invite concerned people to join us at any time they can. The vigil will be held from 11am until 1pm every day, and  is inspired by the vigil at York Minister initiated by John Bibby who is on hunger strike in the Minster for the children of Gaza. His fast will last one hour for each child killed or until there is an unconditional ceasefire.”

Canon de la Hoyde and his wife Liz say that they intend to live on bread, soup and fruit juice for as long as the conflict continues. Donations will be collected at the vigil and given to a suitable charity overseen by the Archbishop of York.
