New term - new classrooms!

Two schools in the diocese are celebrating new extensions at the start of a new school year.

Kirk Hammerton school

Kirk Hammerton Church of England Primary School (pictured) celebrated the completion of its new extension housing a staff room and headteacher’s office at the rear of the existing building. The room that used to provide these facilities is now solely the reception and secretary’s office. The extension was blessed by Bishop John at an outdoor service attended by pupils, teachers, and parents.

Meanwhile, Middleham CE Primary School opened a new classroom at the end of last term. The project cost in excess of £200,000 of which the local community raised £15,000 start up money and the rest came through grants. The project was the result of the shared vision of the Governing body chaired by The Revd Brendan Giblin, staff , headteacher Mrs Sue Bell, and the local community. The school now boasts a new classroom for year 1 together with cloakroom and toilets and an outside play area and this has freed up more classroom space for years 4-6.
