Ripon & Leeds Diocesan Cursillo Movement.
Cursillo is a movement of the Church, wnich offers a method to help mature Christians, both lay and clergy, develop their faith through prayer, study and action, and to become more effective in their own parishes. It cuts across the spectrum of so-called churchmanship and in this diocese offers a helpful means of linking rural and urban churches through shared prayer and worship.

Cursillo is a movement of the Church which helps mature Christians become more effective in their witness, and sharpens their discipleship. Cursillo`s vision is of a world transformed by the love of God - nothing less than the kingdom of God. If we are to be used effectively by God in his mission to change the world in accordance with his values, we ourselves must be renewed people.
Cursillo begins with a 3 day weekend, which provides what is for many people a life changing experience through which God inspires, renews and challenges us.
The unique thing that Cursillo offers the church is the ongoing support structure – the Fourth Day. Christians are encouraged to join small groups for prayer, study and action, to seek Spiritual Direction and to form a Rule of Life.
Cursillo is active in most Dioceses, and forthcoming weekends in the diocese of Ripon & Leeds are 21st – 24th May 2009 and 15th – 18th April 2010 at Wydale Hall near Scarborough.
“For years I have called myself a Christian, until my Cursillo weekend (17-20 April 2002). Over the years I have allowed many people to blow out my light of the Holy Spirit within me and I have lived in the darkness, or so that’s how it seems now. Being among and having so many people praying for and guiding me, to thank you is just not enough, but I hope my promise will go some way towards it. My promise to God, all of you and myself is that I will never let anyone take or blow out the light again. I will remain in the light of the Holy Spirit in my Fourth Day”

“In 2007 I was fortunate enough to be able to go to Wydale as a guest of Ripon & Leeds Cursillo. The weekend was a “reunion” of Cursillistas and it gave me a remarkable insight into how Cursillo work’s in practice. I was able, as someone on the fringe of the organisation, to observe the positive effect that this Christian movement has on the individuals involved. I then had a whole year to decide whether I accepted the invitation back to Wydale for Ripon & Leeds #12 and become a Cursillistas myself. Well I went and it is a decision I will never regret! The grace and love of God was a palpable and unique experience - totally unforgettable. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.”

“The Cursillo movement has had a powerful effect in deepening the spirituality and commitment of Christian people and I have been privileged to share in the Eucharists of Ripon & Leeds weekends I look forward to more people seizing this opportunity for growth in Christ.”
Bishop John Packer
“Cursillo is about making disciples: it transforms people’s lives and empowers them for service. Cursillo is active in most Dioceses of this Province, for which I praise God.”
Archbishop John Sentamu
“It is possible to encounter God in many ways other than Cursillo – encountering God is easy – it is following Christ afterwards that is the problem.”
