In addition to national media, there are scores of media outlets covering the Diocese. They include three daily regional newspapers, three BBC local radio stations, several weekly newspapers, and regional BBC and ITV programmes from Newcastle and Leeds.
Many larger publications and broadcasters feed into smaller publications or very specific groups and communities. The key aspects to the media function are:
a) Producing regular news releases
b) Providing a 24 hr reactive press enquiry servicec) Handling interview requests, and responding to media requests
c) Supporting mission initiatives
d) Developing a specialist list of spokespeople available for comment
e) Providing training for parishes on raising their own profile and communicating good newsf) In addition to press releases and events, the media also ‘discover’ stories through Together and the website
