by Mon 22 March.

During the day the story of the Project so far will be explained, and we shall:

Hear what couples outside the church really think about the Church of England and the ministry we offer them.

Share our own experience of church wedding ministry today.

Receive practical resources to make weddings work more effective and enjoyable, and less stressful and frustrating.

Pray and reflect together on this aspect of our ministry, and on the bread-and-butter work of parish churches which England still values so much

In November Bishops John and James wrote in Ad Clerum :

"Following presentations at the Diocesan Synod and Bishop's Staff, we have agreed that the Diocese will be one of the fourteen to take part in the next stage of this exciting Project. The Weddings Project has involved an extensive consultation with both couples and clergy which has resulted in the production of an excellent range of advice, resources and materials. One aim is to increase the number of marriages in church in the face of a consistent decline in recent years. The evidence so far is that the aim is readily achievable!"

Here is a selection of comments from Vicars within and outside the trial areas of the Weddings Project.

“I certainly feel more resourced and confident in being able to present a church wedding in a more professional manner."

“Good to have empirical research, and to be challenged.”

“This must be made available to the whole Church.”

“It’s exciting to know that the Church wants to resource us so that we can reach out to the community beyond the wedding day.”

“I wish I’d had this years ago! I will do some things differently.”
